Twenty fourth and fifth grade students from Crawfordville Elementary School were selected as safety patrol officers for the school, known as Cougar Cadets. Erin Daughtry, Safety Patrol Sponsor, said, "Cougar Cadets are select fourth and fifth grade students who have proven to be responsible upstanding citizens during their tenure at Crawfordville." Students are nominated to participate on the Crawfordville Safety Patrol team based on teacher recommendation. Mrs. Daughtry added, "These students continue to make and model responsible choices, maintain a respectable GPA, and exhibit positive behaviors within the school environment." Superintendent David Miller commended the students for being selected as Cougar Cadets and said, "Remember, student safety is our #1 priority. You help keep the school safe by being the eyes and the ears of the school."
The primary duties of the safety patrol include holding hallway entrance/exit doors, reporting safety violations to teachers and staff and being positive role models for the other Crawfordville cougars. Last week the Cougar Cadets took a field trip to the District Office and visited three safety stations. Risk and Safety Coordinator Jim Griner conducted a safety workshop and highlighted duties of crime stoppers, Cindy Jones led a workshop explaining Level II background checks, fingerprinting and created an ID Badge for each cadet, and the final station was facilitated by HR Executive Director Karen Wells regarding new hire orientation and safety tips.
