Competency 1:

This is an online course that meets the requirements for Competency 1 of the Reading Endorsement. You may access the link for complete information.

The textbook for the class is 'Literacy for the 21st Century, 4th Edition,' written by Gail E. Tompkins published by Prentice Hall (ISBN 0-13-119076-8). The district will provide the book for teachers who are taking the course. Please contact the Curriculum Office (mimsb@wakulla.k12.fl.us) when your registration is accepted.

ADAPT -Competency 3 :

This course is available free to teachers who are seeking the reading endorsement. Multiple sessions are available throughout the year. See the website for more information. Website address: http://www.nefec.org/dl/adapt/

The required book is:  Developing and Using Classroom Assessments  by Oosterhof.  The district will provide the text. Please contact the Curriculum Office ( mimsb@wakulla.k12.fl.us ) when you have registered. 

Competency 4/5:

At least two competencies must be completed before beginning Competency 4/5. An

Open slots will be filled on a first-come first-served basis . Multiple classes will be held during the following time frames and teachers may select the time period that best suits their schedule. Confirmations will be sent to teachers who have secured a complimentary slot and to those who did not.

The required textbooks for FADI are:
When Kids Can't Read, What Teachers Can Do by Kylene Beers, 2003, published by Heinemann (ISBN 0-86709-519-9), Fulfilling the Promise of the Differentiated Classroom by Carol Ann Tomlinson, 2003, published by the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ISBN 0-87120-812-1),

The district will provide the textbooks. Please contact the Curriculum Office (mimsb@wakulla.k12.fl.us) when you have registered.   

ATTENTION: IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE TEACHER TO ASSURE THAT THE STAFF DEVELOPMENT OFFICE RECEIVES A CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION WHEN AN ONLINE COURSE IS COMPLETED.  NO CREDIT WILL BE GIVEN WITHOUT A CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION.

Competency 6:

Competency 6 is the Practicum.   It can be taken only after you have completed Competencies 1-5. If you have completed Competency 1-5, please contact Beth Mims at 926-0065 for information on how to begin Competency 6.

College Courses:  On-campus courses that can apply to the Reading Endorsement are offered on an ongoing basis at area universities. Tuition is the responsibility of the teacher.  An official transcript showing successful completion of the course(s) is required for credit towards the endorsement to be given.
