Parents can help the school district keep students safe by doing the following:
-
Be sure that your child's emergency contact information is up to date at the school your child attends. This is particularly important if you have had a change in phone numbers or email addresses since correspondence will go out from the District to phones and emails first.
-
Be sure the school has the current information about any caregivers/babysitters that you use especially those who have permission to pick up your child from school.
-
Be sure your child knows what to do and /or where to go if there is an emergency and no one is at home.
-
Be sure your child knows how to reach you at all times.
-
Talk to your child about personal safety. This includes physical safety (not talking to strangers, what to do at Bus stops) and emotional safety (how to be safe on the Internet).
-
Make sure your child knows the sounds of the smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and fire alarms in your home. Be sure your child knows what to do when he/she hears these at home or hears sirens in a public location.
-
If you or your child sees anything strange around a school building, report it immediately.
