OCTOBER 2012

Fairy Tales: Real and Make Believe

The experiences planned during this month will focus on real and make-believe.  Many young children have difficulty separating reality and make-believe.  This theme is designed to help the children explore four well-known  stories, while at the same time comparing them to what might really happen.
These stories are:

  • The Three Little Pigs
  • The Three Bears and Goldilocks
  • The Little Red Hen
  • Cinderella

Young childre are often confused about what is actually real and what they imagine.  They often have fears about monsters and the dark.  Their imaginations are growing and they often change what actually happens in their lives to match what they wish would happen.  Using one's imagination is important to the long-term ability to deal with events that will be experienced throughout one's life.  Encourage your child's creativity and imagination by listening to the stories he/she tells and reading books each evening.

We will be talking about the following topcis in the classroom:

  • Fears/things that frighten me
  • Day and Night
  • Fairy tales
  • Distinguishing things that are real from things that are make believe

The colors of the month are the colors of autumn:

Orange, and black

The shape of the month is Triangle.

The letters of the month are Tt, Hh, Cc, and Ee.

Activities for you to do at home with your child:
