April 2013: Insects and Spiders

The experiences planned during this month should focus on insects and spiders. Many people think that spiders are insects, but they are very diffferent animals.  This theme will look at both insects and spiders in a effort to help the children understand how they are alike and how they are different and how many of them help our world to be a better place.  For example, without spiders eating mosquitoes and other biting insects we would be in a terrible fix.

The color of the month is shades of green:

The shape of the month is Rectangle-the shape with four sides, two sides are equal and shorter than the other two sides that are equal and longer.

The letters of the month are Xx.

Activities for you to do at home with your child:

  • Reading at least one story a night.
  • Pointing out things that are green and the different shades of green.
  • Pointing out things that use the retangle shape such as a door to your house.
  • Finding objects that begin with the letters S and R. Bring some of these to school for the sound table.
  • Send books or pictures of insects and spiders to school to share.
