March 2013: Birds in My Neighborhood

The experiences planned during this month should focus on birds, particularly the ones we see everyday.  Young children are our best hope for proecting the environment.  When young children are taught early to value the animals and plans that make their world interesting and beautiful, they are more likely to grow up to be environmentally sensitive and caring adults.

Areas of importance:

  • What are the birds that we see everyday?
  • How do birds help our environment?
  • What can we do to take care of the birds in our community?

The color of the month is purple.

The shape of the month is Hexagon.

The letters of the month are Jj, Nn, Gg and Zz.

Activities for you to do at home with your child:

  • Observe the bird life around your neighborhood. Take walks and watch the birds.
  • Look for objects in the environment that use the hexagon shape.
  • Find pictures of objects and send objects for our sound table that begin the letters J, N, G, and Z.
  • Point out objects in your environment that are yellow and orange.
