David Miller,a third-generation Wakulla County educator, was sworn in to the office of Superintendent of Schools-during a hurricane-on June 6, 1995. Recommended to the then Governor of Florida, Lawton Chiles, by fellow educators and local politicians, David was tapped to assume the Superintendency and complete the term of office after the untimely death of the previous Superintendent.
Since that time he has been returned to the elected office of Superintendent three times. Prior to his assuming the Superintendency, Mr. Miller served as a School Principal at the Elementary and High School levels for 14 years. Prior to that he served as an assistant principal/administrative assistant at the High School. He taught science and coached at the secondary level when Wakulla High School was a 7th-12th grade school. He is in his thirty fourth year of service with the Wakulla County School Board. Mr. Miller is active in the community and civic organizations. He is a lay leader, member of the Administrative Council, and a choir member at Crawfordville United Methodist Church. He is a member of the Wakulla County Chamber of Commerce having acted as Director in the past; a member of the Wakulla County Rotary Club having served on the Board of Directors; a supporter of the Wakulla United Way having served as Chairman in 1995 and having continuous service on the United Way Education Committee. Since assuming the Superintendency David Miller's leadership ability has been widely recognized. He shares his expertise and experience willingly by membership and participation in the following professional organizations:
Superintendent Miller, a life-long resident of Wakulla County, is married and resides with his wife Dolores north of Crawfordville on acreage farmed by his family for generations. They have three young adult children who are busy pursuing careers of their choice. Foremost, Superintendent Miller guides the Wakulla County School System through leadership by example. He leads bimonthly Directors meetings with his top-level administrative team. Additionally, he participates in monthly Administrative Staff meetings and Principal meetings. His office is open to students, parents, employees, and the community at large. He annually visits all schools and programs getting into almost every classroom in the District. He attends extra-curricular activities for all schools. He communicates effectively with the School Board keeping them abreast of issues arising in the system. He encourages and supports his Staff's participation in community events such as the United Way and the American Cancer Society-Relay for Life Event. He sets the bar high for all involved with the Wakulla County School System; but, he is always there to support and encourage staff and students striving to achieve and be the best they can be. |
